Royal Govt. Asks Ministry of Public Works to Study Infrastructure Projects Between Cambodia and Laos

PHNOM PENH: At the Council of Ministers Plenary Session on 7 April 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that he wishes to see the establishment of infrastructure projects that connect Cambodia and Laos.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the National Authority for Border Affairs, the Preah Vihear Provincial Administration and the Ratanakkiri Provincial Administration to jointly study developing infrastructure projects between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People's Democratic Republic in the Tonle Pov area in Preah Vihear Province and in the Kantouy Neak area of Ratanakkiri province.

He urged for study into this matter after Cambodia and Laos discussed building high-speed rail links between the two countries and with other countries.

During the Prime Minister's last visit to Laos on 13 February, he remarked on his bilateral discussions with Lao leadership, saying they "covered issues related to tourism, by both land and air," and also "connecting cities, especially Siem Reap and Phnom Penh [from Cambodia's side], providing opportunities for tourists to travel to both Laos and Cambodia."

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Cambodia and Laos will make efforts to resolve all border issues and establish a peaceful border between the two countries, while also working towards strengthening cooperation in all fields.
